Enchanted Mushroom Workshop 2016
Easter came early for us!
We were invited to join the ENCHANTED MUSHROOM WORKSHOP at Shangri-La! I’m not sure if someone has done a workshop like this before, but it’s certainly our first time participating one! When we told Sonia of this workshop, she was eggcited! The idea of being able to create her very own edible Easter Chocolate
Egg Mushroom was fascinating for her. And better still, the thought of being able to eat those sweets and chocolates kept her “high” even before the sugar rush kicks in.
ENCHANTED MUSHROOM WORKSHOP 2016
Sonia took a while to “warm-up”. She was shy, excited, apprehensive, piqued, thrilled, and worried, all at the same time. But as soon as she saw the line of sweet treats beautifully decorated in the theme of “Alice in the Wonderland”, she picked two paper cups and started helping herself with the M&M chocolates, jellybeans, gummy bears, and everything else.
~ An amazing array of sweet treats ~
To a child turning four, this place was heaven! She helped herself with a generous serving of chocolate rice and jellybeans. And later took a cup filled with M&M chocolates. True to be told, she had NEVER eaten any of these before today. I planned to lift the “sweet ban” on her fourth birthday but that day came earlier for her.
Both Sonia and Hub’s favourite might be the sweet treats but it wasn’t the same for me. I really really liked the apron! If only they had them in my size… It would be fun baking with my daughter wearing the same apron!
After tasting all kinds of chocolates and jellybeans, we started working on the ENCHANTED MUSHROOM!
The Chef in bunny ears saw that we were a little lost, came to our rescue! So now we know what’s that ball of dough was for.
They were meant to fill the mushroom up. Sonia was tasked to roll the dough into small balls and cover them with a layer of colourful chocolate rice.
She did them well! Thumbs up, sweetheart!
Now that the “mushroom” is filled with so much goodness, we are about to start decorating the “mushroom” on the outside. Before anything, we went to collect the fondant base from the chef and learnt how to make grass patches using fondant and a sieve.
It’s really easy making grass patches but you need quite a bit of strength to push the fondant through the sieve. No doubts, Sonia needed some help with that.
That’s how to make grass patches. Simple, no?
Sonia had so much fun decorating her “mushroom” and of course, eating the sweet treats while dressing it up! The pictures will tell it all…
Finally, it’s done.
She still wasn’t satisfied with her design, and so made a lot more adjustment before allowing the chef to keep her masterpiece in a box.
Now, she couldn’t wait to show this off to her little brother – Arnold.
Meanwhile, we made her drink lots of water. I felt like she had to dilute the sugar she had just consumed over the past one hour! That was TOO MUCH SUGAR for a toddler, way TOO MUCH! Or maybe I was just being too up tight? After all, it’s her FIRST time, yes, first time, eating sweets.
And if you think that was not sweet enough, more sweet treats coming up! The chef had lined a high-tea buffet for all of us, the young and the
old ahem, adults.
These were Sonia’s pick! She’s good with anything chocolaty! Well, my girl takes after my sweet tooth (opss)!
They all looked so pretty and I want a piece of everything on the table BUT I just had too much jellybeans and M&M chocolates. Anymore, pimples will pop! I need to rein myself from eating!!!
Sonia, however, knows no limit. She would throw a chocolate into her mouth when we weren’t watching. Kids… (shake head)
